I have ridden down this peninsula as well! I have found that the best time to ride it is in the fall when the water recedes from the shore. The shoreline that is normally submerged is much more compacted than the dry land. Besides a few mud holes, it is much firmer than the sand onshore and surprisingly easy to ride on.
